What is a Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA)?
A Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) is a process used by local authorities to understand the present and emerging health and care needs of their population. It helps decision-makers plan and commission health, wellbeing, and social care services that are appropriate for the local area.
The JSNA aims to:
- analyse local and national data to build a clear picture of the health and wellbeing of communities
- identify inequalities and unmet needs in health outcomes and people’s experiences of services
- bring together community perspectives and evidence on how well current services and interventions are working
- summarise key insights and priorities based on the available evidence
- support the Health and Wellbeing Board in developing and shaping the local Health and Wellbeing Strategy
